About Many Moons Birth

& Jasmine Stuverud

Why Many Moons?

Many Moons Birth is founded on respecting birth in all its forms. It welcomes the full spectrum of experiences as exactly what they are: birth. It is ancient, it is ancestral, and it is modern—as well as everything in between. It is the arrival of a human being to the outside world, in whatever shape or form it takes.

Like the moon, we wax and we wane. We change shape. The path to becoming a parent is a threshold that finds us transformed physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and more. Throughout this journey, we come across all sorts of new parts of ourselves— of shadow, light, and the liminal spaces between. Here, all is welcome.

No matter where you’re at on your path, I’m here to help you feel supported and guided along the way.

Meet the Doula

In many ways, living my life and becoming a doula were naturally entwined. From a young age, I have always been the friend in my circle of peers that comforts, holds, and offers a listening nurturing presence. For many years I thought I would become a mental health therapist (and I still may some day!)

After witnessing the birth of my little sister as a teen, I was spellbound by not just the beauty and raw power of birth, but also by the role of the midwife. She seemed to hold that space of both strength and gentleness, firmness and softness, and had the skills in hand and heart that felt kindred to me on a deep level. Her birth guided me to realize that I wanted to support pregnant and birthing women and people find the strength inside themselves to give birth and parent in their own unique, empowered way.

I began my journey by looking into becoming a midwife. But it was only at my first midwives assistant training when I was once again turned to a new path. I was taking newborn vitals under supervision, counting breaths and heart tones, but all the while I was also watching this new family. Dad beamed, Mom rested, and the energy in the room was a luxurious, luminous field of gratitude, love, and triumph. I thought how much I would rather be feeding this family, protecting their space, and providing emotional support. It was then I learned about the role of a doula. I found an experienced mentor, took some trainings, and dove as deep as my heart wanted to take me. I never looked back.

After having my own child, and in addition to my work with low-income families offering support through the non-profit Open Arms, I am honored to serve families in the Bellingham, WA area as a full spectrum doula and placenta encapsulator.

When I’m not supporting families, you can find my spending time with my two toddlers, making birth-inspired ceramics and block prints, and cooking my favorite matrilinial Persian recipes.
